  17. Have you ever used the Internet or CompuServe?  If so, you've
  18. probably encountered ZIP files.  Are you a Windows user?  If so,
  19. WinZip is THE way to handle these archived files.

  21. WinZip brings the convenience of Windows to the use of Zip files
  22. and other compression formats.  Windows 95, NT, and Windows 3.1
  23. versions are shipped on the same disk.  WinZip features include:

  25. Windows 95 support:  WinZip includes long filename support and
  26. tight integration with the Windows 95 shell.  Drag and drop to or
  27. from the Explorer, or zip and unzip without leaving the Explorer.

  29. Internet support:  download and open Zip files with one click from
  30. Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.  WinZip
  31. features built-in support for popular Internet file formats:  TAR,
  32. gzip, Unix compress, UUEncode, XXencode, BinHex, and MIME.  ARJ,
  33. LZH, and ARC files are supported via external programs.  WinZip
  34. interfaces to most virus scanners.

  36. Built-in 100% PKZIP-compatible ZIP and UNZIP, including support
  37. for multi-disk Zip files (PKZIP and PKUNZIP are NOT required for
  38. any zipping or unzipping operations).

  40. The WinZip Wizard:  this optional feature uses the standard and
  41. familiar "wizard" interface to simplify the process of unzipping
  42. and installing software distributed in Zip files. The WinZip

  93. WinZip is extremely easy to use!  To open an archive simply double
  94. click on an archive listed in the File Manager or Explorer, drag
  95. and drop an archive onto WinZip, or use the standard Open dialog.
  96. The main WinZip window features a list box with the names, sizes,
  97. and date/time stamps of all files in the open archive.  This list
  98. can be scrolled and sorted on any field.  A tool bar provides fast
  99. access to commonly used actions.  All options (including window
  100. size and position) can be saved and restored.  Extensive context
  101. sensitive help is always available.

  103. Double clicking on a file in the main window has the same effect
  104. as double clicking in the File Manager or Explorer.  First the
  105. file is extracted from the archive.  If the file is executable, it
  106. is run.  Otherwise, the file is opened by the appropriate
  107. application (for example, Windows Write for *.WRI files) based on
  108. standard Windows associations.

  110. Under Windows 3.1 WinZip's unique "Install/Uninstall Feature"
  111. makes it easy to install and uninstall software distributed in
  112. archives.  This feature can save megabytes of disk space by
  113. tracking and removing all traces of an application.  WinZip will
  114. run the installation program in an archive, give you a chance to
  115. try the program, and optionally offer to restore your system to
  116. its original state.  The uninstall step can selectively remove
  117. folders, files, icons, or program groups created by an install
  118. program, and can restore any altered INI files.  You have complete
  119. control over the uninstall process, and no changes are made
  120. without approval.

  122. If an archive doesn't have an "install" or "setup" program you can
  123. use the CheckOut facility to easily try the files in the archive.
  124. The CheckOut facility will extract all files and create a program
  125. group with icons for all or some files.  Just double click on an
  126. icon in the CheckOut group to view the corresponding file with the
  127. appropriate application.  Later, WinZip will optionally delete the
  128. CheckOut files and program group.

  132. The 32-bit version requires Windows 95 or Windows NT.  The 16-bit
  133. version requires Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups.  While no
  134. other programs are required for basic operations involving ZIP,
  135. TAR, GZ, Z files, UUencoded, XXencode, BinHex, or MIME files,
  136. optional features require one or more external programs.  See the
